Artist Profile — Clare Dubina
Clare Dubina (b. 1977) is a multi-disciplinary artist currently located in Naarm (Melbourne), Victoria, Australia, having also lived in the U.K and U.S.A. Holding a Bachelor Of Fine Arts (Printmaking) from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Clare draws on the female form as an ever evolving source of inspiration in her art practice, which has led to collaborations with celebrated Australian brands such as Viktoria & Woods, Tigmi Trading, Bed Threads and En Gold, along with features by creative platforms ‘The Design Files ‘ and ‘Hunter & Folk.’ Most recently, Clare celebrated a second sell out exhibition with Rainbow Studios in Darlinghurst, New South Wales.
The tactile processes of the various Printmaking techniques heavily influence her current aesthetic through layering, texturing and simplicity. Clare’s work explores the shapes, lines, silhouettes and negative spaces created by the female form, with each series of work nurturing the direction of the next to form a cohesive narrative.
“The common foundation and inspiration for my art practice is the shapes, lines, silhouettes and negative spaces of the female figure. Each series has nurtured the direction of the next to form a cohesive narrative. For my current body of work, I have exchanged my usual deliberate approach for an intuitively guided process, which is resulting in a more ambiguous abstraction of the female form. I am also introducing a broader and unfamiliar colour palette, which is a nod to the layering techniques retrospective of my Printmaking background.” - Clare Dubina
