“Since falling for the instinctive abstraction of Amish quilts in the early days of my career as an artist, I have experimented with patchwork, whether through leaf pressings cut into rhomboids and circles suggesting the microscopic eye view, or by transforming the hidden insides of envelopes into a geometric montage. Cutting out has always been part of my creative process and allows a certain freedom to experiment with form, shape, colour and content. I have cut my compositions out of canvas and with the aid of digital technologies have eliminated the signature brush strokes from the surfaces, so as not to leave my mark. I’m interested in the visual channel of communication between the composition and the viewer, wanting the image to hum, sing and at times vibrate with the language of shape and colour.” - Susan Watson Knight
